West Yorkshire resident Simon Barclay has been convicted of smuggling millions of pounds worth of drugs on the dark web using Crypto.
Barclay, 41, pleaded guilty on Tuesday at Leeds Crown Court to a range of crimes. This includes possession of Class A and B drugs and crime proceeds held in approximately 5.5 million pounds ($6.6 million) in digital assets by the end of 2021.
According to the West Yorkshire Police meetThat Barclay’s illegal activities were first detected in 2021 by the Eastern Special Operations Unit (ERSOU), the UK’s national Dark Web crime investigation agency.
After several months of investigation The identity of the prisoner was revealed and ERSOU contacted the Yorkshire and Humber regional cybercrime unit and Kirklees Police began an additional investigation, monitoring Mr Simon Barclay’s daily routine of deliveries to the local post office from that location. is related to him

DI Simon Reddington, an officer from Kirklees Police Program Precision, commented on the case:
“Barclay’s use of the Dark Web proved to be the key to opening the door to his drug network. And this action truly demonstrates the effectiveness of information sharing between the police and our national and regional partners.”
Simon Barclay was sentenced to nine years in prison. And the prisoner will face a trial of the Proceeds of Crime later this year to ensure his profits are properly seized. and he shall have no benefit from those gains after his imprisonment.
