Dozens dead in tanker truck explosion in Sierra Leone
Dozens of people were killed in a tank truck explosion in Sierra Leone. According to the deputy health minister of the West African country Amara Jambai, more than 100 injured people are being treated in the hospitals in the capital, Freetown. Among the victims are numerous people who apparently wanted to catch fuel that had leaked from the broken truck. The exact circumstances and the full extent of the damage are not yet clear, said the mayor of Freetown Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr. The vehicle is said to have had a collision before the explosion. Similar incidents killed 85 people in Tanzania in 2019 and 50 deaths in Congo in 2018.
