Karl Lauterbach settles accounts with Wagenknecht and Precht

“A booster vaccination for everyone would definitely not make sense now”

Health Minister Spahn has come under fire with his call for a booster vaccination. SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach speaks out against a refresher for everyone.

SPD health politician Karl Lauterbach has accused Sahra Wagenknecht of deliberately twisting facts for political reasons. He clearly contradicts Richard David Precht. In the current Corona situation, he agrees with Jens Spahn on one thing.

Noh Sahra Wagenknecht’s vaccination-skeptical appearance at “Anne Will”, SPD health politician Karl Lauterbach declared that he had the “dark assumption” that Wagenknecht was deliberately misrepresenting facts about the corona vaccinations for political and tactical reasons.

Although he valued Wagenknecht as a politician, her appearance was dangerous. “That hurts,” he told the “mirror”. Wagenknecht either simply doesn’t know his way around, “that would be a conceivable interpretation”. Then she shouldn’t have sat down on a talk show and talked about it, just as he doesn’t comment on football games, for example, said Lauterbach, “that would be absurd, I’m not an expert on it.”

The other possibility is: “She knows more, but misrepresents it”. Lauterbach believes “to be honest, she knows more”. Wagenknecht had expressed concerns about the available corona vaccines, Lauterbach was part of the show itself and invalidated several of her arguments, accusing her of spreading “robber pistols”.

At Precht “there are a lot of things that are simply wrong”

Lauterbach also criticized Richard David Precht’s statements about the corona vaccinations for children. “There were a lot of things that are just wrong”. He knows and appreciates Precht, which is why he did not initially expect such statements. It not only surprised him, but also disappointed him. Precht had claimed, among other things, that an “developing immune system” should not be “processed with this vaccine” – even though children receive various vaccinations at a very young age.

Lauterbach has a clear opinion on the current Corona situation: “Unfortunately, many people in Germany will get Corona in winter”. Lauterbach “clearly” assumes that “the entire adult population will need another booster vaccination”. One has to start here with the over 70-year-olds, who are particularly at risk and for whom the basic immunization due to the vaccination prioritization was also a long time ago.

Just a few days ago, Lauterbach had said on the WELT news channel that the booster vaccination for everyone – including younger people – would “not make sense now,” because the vaccination protection is still sufficient for many. In doing so, he follows the opinion and recommendation of the Standing Vaccination Commission – and contradicts the Managing Minister of Health Jens Spahn, who already wants to offer a booster vaccination to everyone who wants it.

Much too “silly” and “lax”

Lauterbach shares the same opinion as Spahn when it comes to controls. He accuses restaurateurs “of course” of not carefully checking vaccination or test certificates, this is often done much too “silly” and “lax”. “Unvaccinated people find themselves in many cafés or restaurants because they know that there is no control there and then become infected”.

Spahn complained on Wednesday that his vaccination certificate “was checked more often in one day in Rome than in Germany in four weeks”.

After the SPD’s election victory, Lauterbach is considered a candidate for the office of health minister. For this, however, he kept a low profile in the conversation. He does not want to participate in speculation that there are many others who could become health ministers. At least the office would not overwhelm him, he confirmed, “but maybe I overestimate myself there too”.

Lauterbach emphasized that he sometimes read studies “late into the night”, that is important and the basis for expressing himself publicly. The not very serious allegation that Lauterbach would “rather fall asleep with studies in his arms than with a woman” was “a lie”.
