Shopping for boho furniture: where to start?
The majority of decorating styles are characterized by materials, colors and a characteristic design. For example, you just need to know what furniture to choose to adopt an industrial style at home. In the case of bohemian decoration, things are far from so clear, because this style is characterized by a clever mix of influences.
To choose your furniture, we therefore draw from Scandinavian furniture as well as ethnic, even industrial furniture, with a touch of vintage.
However, certain materials should be preferred. Among them, plant fibers, rattan and light wood species. We also love exotic species, like mango wood.
The truly emblematic piece of furniture of the bohemian style is the Emmanuelle armchair (or Peacock armchair). This model of rare versatility has the particularity of working not only in all rooms of the house, but also on the terrace or on the balcony.
Bohemian kitchen: which furniture to shop?
The kitchen is the ideal room to allow the bohemian style to fully express itself.
In the boho kitchen, we opt primarily for soft and bright shades. We therefore fall for white, for the sand color or for pinkish beige, warmed by a beautiful essence of wood.
If you are in the “colorful kitchen” team, focus on natural shades such as green, combined with wood or canework.
Want to stick to back-to-school decorating trends? Let yourself be inspired by the gypsy spirit, and dare to use vibrant and dynamic colors.
Whatever your preferred option, keep in mind that it is the decorative accessories that will give the kitchen its bohemian character. To do this, use the classics: earthenware splashback, indoor plants, contemporary or vintage ceramics and rugs.
And in the dining room?
Whether it is the kitchen dining area or setting up a bohemian dining room, we adopt wooden furniture as a priority.
The solid wood table remains a safe bet. This central piece can be accessorized with mix and match seats. We then have fun combining chairs and a bench, or even a bench. And of course, we think about decorating the set with cushions or even faux fur.
The alternative is wicker or rattan chairs, which combine an airy design and a very bohemian character.
As for storage, we preferably opt for a sideboard or a low sideboard. The vintage sideboard is a very safe choice to bring a little retro spirit to the decor. To accentuate the ethnic side of your bohemian dining room, choose a model carved in mango wood. Afraid of missing out? Bet on a safe bet: the buffet or the cane sideboard.
Bohemian style: essential furniture in the living room
With its peaceful and cozy character, the bohemian style seems made for the living room.
The low sofa with large and deep cushions is a real must-have for the bohemian living room. You can even remove the structure to place the cushions on the floor. Then combine the sofa with a very thick rug, for a very cozy nomadic look.
In the bohemian living room, we of course opt for a sofa and a mismatched armchair. The safe bet is then the rattan armchair.
The looped wool armchair constitutes a wonderful and cocooning alternative to the rattan model.
The end tables add a lovely finishing touch to the bohemian living room. Between the raw or carved wooden model and the hammered metal model, there’s no need to choose: your decor will be even more stunning if you have fun collecting them!
The bookcase in black wood or carved mango wood generally benefits from an interesting storage capacity. It can also become the highlight of your bohemian living room.
Bohemian style: what furniture for the bedroom?
The bohemian look has everything to captivate fans of the cocooning bedroom.
The rattan headboard (or its canework variant) is one of the emblematic pieces of the bohemian bedroom.
The other classic solution is to simply adopt a pretty wooden box spring bed, and decorate it with a macramé wall decoration or a wall hanging.
The cane wardrobe replaces the traditional dressing room in the bohemian bedroom. If the total look is a rather hot option in the master bedroom, we can prefer a version enhanced with a touch of soft color in the children’s bedroom.
