Excuse me, I have to go to my film premiere. Johnny Depp digs through the crowd. The fact that a film with his participation was shown as the opening film was previously criticized: Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard had been in legal disputes for months, both were found guilty of defamation. Heard had accused Depp of abuse, who had always denied it.

Thierry Frémaux, the festival director, does not respond to the criticism. “I’m only interested in Depp as an actor,” he said.

A major innovation this year: With Iris Knobloch (middle) as President, a woman is at the helm of the International Film Festival for the first time. Here she greets visitors alongside director Thierry Fremaux (right) and French actress Catherine Deneuve (left).

The guests at the premiere who walk the red carpet are also well-known: for example top model Naomi Campbell.

The journey was worthwhile for Michael Douglas: He will receive the “Palm of Honor” at the festival – the award for his life’s work. On stage he realizes that at 78 he is older than the film festival itself.
