Seven years in prison for the nanny who had fatally shaken a baby

A Breton childminder was sentenced on Wednesday by the Morbihan Assize Court to seven years in prison for intentional violence against a minor resulting in death. The victim was an eleven-month-old baby, whom she had been babysitting for a few weeks.

The facts occurred on September 9, 2014 at his home in Lorient. The nurse, who no longer exercises this profession, had just fed the little boy when she shook him by the shoulders. He later died in hospital, reports The Telegram.

During the trial, the accused, aged 59, claimed her innocence. She claims not to have shaken the child but to have acted to prevent him from choking on food. The experts, themselves, had concluded to a shaken baby syndrome.
