Heimstetten: Large-scale operation after a leak in a hazardous goods barrel – district of Munich

A strong odor hit the Heimstetten volunteer fire department when they opened a trailer in the Heimstetten commercial area on Wednesday morning. A “dangerous goods leak” had been reported to them beforehand. Since the trailer was fully loaded and the firefighters could not immediately discover a leak, they unloaded the trailer wearing heavy respiratory protection and special protective suits and checked the load for damage.

The substance loaded was identified as a diluent on the basis of the hazardous substances papers and measurements by the Munich Land ABC train. The damaged 200-litre barrel was placed in a so-called overflow barrel and handed over to the company. According to the district fire inspection, there was never a danger and nobody was injured. A total of one hundred volunteer fire brigades from Heimstetten, Kirchheim and Feldkirchen, the ABC train, the district fire inspection, the ÖEL support group, the rescue service and the police were deployed.
