Hertha BSC surprisingly separates from Fredi Bobic – Sport

Hertha BSC has separated from sports director Fredi Bobic. The executive committee and supervisory board decided on Saturday after the disappointing 0: 2 (0: 1) in the capital derby against 1. FC Union Berlin to release the 51-year-old from his duties “with immediate effect”, as the club announced. Immediately after the game, Bobic gave interviews, before the game he gave coach Sandro Schwarz a job guarantee.

After the weak start to the year with defeats at VfL Bochum (1: 3) and against VfL Wolfsburg (0: 5), Hertha is only 17th in the table, the next relegation threatens. The club has invited to a press conference for Sunday at 1 p.m.

Bobic was hired as managing director of the capital club in April 2021 for the 2021/22 season, succeeding long-time manager Michael Preetz. The former national striker Bobic had previously worked successfully at Eintracht Frankfurt. In the last season, too, Hertha was in danger of relegation for a long time and was only able to stay in the Bundesliga with Felix Magath, who was committed as a rescuer, through the relegation against Hamburger SV.

The consequences of the decision against Bobic for Black remained open on Saturday evening. “We also have a lot of trust in the coach,” said captain Marco Richter after the derby defeat. “It’s no secret that he’s a great fit for us. He’s just as lacking in points as we are.” The “common path” will “hopefully” continue.
