It said these are worrying numbers. The search for victims continued. More than 1000 people would have to be cared for in warm accommodation.

Residents call for help

According to Ukrainian media reports, residents buried in the rubble also used their flashlights on mobile phones in the dark to indicate where they were under the rubble in order to be rescued. Many also screamed, according to videos posted on social media.

The Presidential Administration in Kyiv has released photos and videos of the ruined building. The head of the presidential office in Kyiv, Andriy Yermak, was appalled: “Russians are terrorists who will be punished for everything. Everyone – without exception.” He said that the anti-aircraft and air force were doing their job. “We will fight back,” he stressed. The enemy does not change tactics and continues to strike civilian infrastructure.

Selenskyj speaks of terror

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also condemned “Russian terror”. With regard to the salvage work, he said: “We are fighting for every human being, for every life.” Those responsible for this bloody deed would be found and punished.

The rocket hit in Dnipro was the most momentous of several attacks. There were air alerts throughout the country at times. It was the first major Russian attack of this kind since the turn of the year. The Ukrainian military said 25 of 38 Russian missiles were shot down.

Again attacks on infrastructure

The Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushenko said that after the new wave of Russian attacks, the power grid had been shut down in “most regions” of the country. The attacks hit the Kharkiv, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zaporizhia, Vinnytsia and Kyiv regions, Galushenko wrote on Facebook.

State-owned electricity utility Ukrenergo said the situation was “complicated” in the Kharkiv and Lviv regions in particular. The attacks would have partially paralyzed the power supply there
