The message from US voters is clear: people want compromise, not confrontation. But with a majority in the House of Representatives, Republicans now have the power to shut down the country. And they will probably do just that.

It took a good week, now it’s official. Republicans have regained control of the US House of Representatives after four years. Six voting districts have not yet been counted, but no matter what the outcome, the Republican majority in the House of Representatives will be razor thin, and the Senate will remain in the hands of the Democrats. America’s right falls far short of the XXL victory it expected (and which most pollsters and pollsters had predicted).
