Two climbers fatally injured in a crash in the Karwendel
Tragic end of a climbing tour: A 19-year-old and her 20-year-old companion fell at the Tiefkarspitze for reasons that have not yet been clarified.
Two people died on Saturday during a climbing tour in the Karwendel Mountains near Mittenwald in Bavaria.
The 19-year-old woman and her 20-year-old companion from the Dachau district crashed in the afternoon at the Tiefkarspitze in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district for reasons that have not yet been clarified, the police said. The landlord of a hut heard loud screams and a rock fracture from the mountain in the Karwendel and then alerted the rescue team.
Rescue forces then discovered the lifeless man at the foot of a rock face from the helicopter, who died on the spot despite immediate resuscitation measures. About 50 meters further they found his already dead companion. The bodies were recovered by a police helicopter and flown into the valley, it said.
