Rouen, Angers and Montpellier at the top of the cities, Ile-de-France at the top of the regions

With rising fuel prices, carpooling is becoming an increasingly credible mobility solution. But in which cities is this practice most rooted? With no less than 11,766 carpooling trips recorded last February, all operators combined, it is in Rouen that car sharing is the most widespread, according to a study carried out by the application Klaxit (outside Paris).

The Norman capital, well aided by a metropolitan incentive policy, is quite clearly ahead of the cities of Angers (7,968 trips) and Montpellier (7,396). Then follow Nantes, Toulouse, Annecy and Metz with more than 5,000 monthly carpooling trips each.

Ile-de-France dominates the regions

Note that Beauvais (Oise) alone has more trips made by carpooling than Lyon or Marseille, despite being 25 times smaller. Bordeaux, Lille, Nice, Strasbourg, Rennes and Grenoble, which are nevertheless among the most populated French cities, are absent from the Top 10.

If one is interested in the French regions, it is Ile-de-France which crushes the classification. With 143,169 journeys accumulated in February, the Ile-de-France region alone accounts for 57% of carpooling made in France. In addition to the attractiveness of Paris, this is partly explained by the fact that Ile-de-France Mobilités has been subsidizing carpooling for five years already. Behind, the Pays-de-la-Loire and Occitanie regions share the podium. Then come Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Normandy.
