The Pyrénées-Orientales Assize Court is judging an 80-year-old man from this Friday. He is accused of having killed his wife, aged 71 at the time of the events. On August 12, 2019, he allegedly stabbed her on the background of an argument, in their house in Port-Vendres, in the Pyrénées-Orientales. She had told him some time before that she intended to divorce him, after living together for fifty years.
While the divorce proceedings were initiated, she would have been preparing to return to England, the country where she was from, at the time of the tragedy. The husband would have killed him with a knife. In front of the gendarmes, as he did afterwards throughout the investigation, he always denied having premeditated his gesture or even intended to kill his wife. Indicted for murder and imprisoned for three years, he faces life imprisonment. In Perpignan, the verdict of the popular jury is expected for Tuesday.
