The sectional door

This type of door divides itself into two categories. You can choose a sectional garage door ceiling. In this case, the opening is vertical. It is made up of hinged panels, which slide on vertical and horizontal rails.

This type of door does not encroach on the space, neither inside nor outside the garage. It is well suited for large openings and makes it easier to insulate the garage.

The system of the side sectional door is the same, but the panels are placed on one of the walls of the garage. This makes it possible in particular to free up its entire height.

The roll-up door

This type of opening is comparable to roller shutter systems. Indeed, like the shutter, the roll-up door is housed in a box, installed under the garage ceiling.

This roll-up device frees up all the space in the room. So it saves a lot of space. It is also marked by the ease of handling, since the door is usually motorized. It is operated by means of a remote control or a digicode.

She also presents a high degree of security. The system is indeed often equipped with a locking device. Moreover, when an obstacle is detected, the mechanism stops immediately. Such an obstacle prevention device also equips sectional doors.

Finally, the roll-up door also lends itself well to insulating your garage.

The up-and-over door

The up-and-over garage door obeys the same principle as the roll-up door. The only difference, but it is noticeable, is that the panel is made in one piece and it goes up in one block, instead of rolling up.

This means that part of the panel overflows on the outside when the garage door is open. This type of door is quite economical and takes up little space. But it does not clear the entire height of the ceiling. It should be noted that this door will not be suitable if the garage is too low.

Moreover, if it gives directly on the street, the overtaking of the panel can pose some problems. Fortunately, there is a variant, in which the panel does not protrude outside.

What materials for your garage door?

The choice of garage door also depends on the material. Several solutions are then available to you. First you can opt for aluminum. This light material is no less solid and resistant.

It is often recommended for motorized doors. On his side, steel fitted to most sectional garage doors. It is a heavier material, which offers great resistance to shocks and bad weather. It is also treated against corrosion.

much lighter, PVC is more fragile. But it is also more affordable and requires only limited maintenance. Wooden garage doors are more rare; more aesthetic, this material needs regular maintenance.

Finally, there are also fiberglass doors, a fairly durable material overall.

Think about the dimensions

The garage that will flank your new home should be a size that suits your needs. If it is only to be used to house the car, you will choose a garage with standard dimensions.

Indeed, they are calculated in relation to the average size of current vehicles, to which a clearance is added, on each side, to allow the opening of the doors.

We must therefore count on average, 2.5 meters wide, for about 2 to 2.20 meters high. But maybe you need a larger garage. In this case, it will also house, for example, garden furniture or your tools.

Similarly, the dimensions of the garage will be larger if it is to serve as a shelter for a larger vehicle.

The garage door: it’s also a matter of aesthetics

The garage door should not only be practical and provide a safe shelter for your car. It must also participate in the decorative style of the house. And all the more so since it is most often installed on its most visible facade.

Gone are the days when most garage doors were painted white. Of course, we still find this color, but anthracite gray, black or even brighter colors, such as blue or red, are often adopted today.

These colors harmonize with those of the front door. In addition, portholes, and other accessories, of various shapes, complete to make the garage door a real decorative element.
