The red-red state government in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will overturn the 3G rule in almost all areas before Easter. The reason for this is the easing of the Corona situation. Restrictions still apply to unvaccinated tourists.

With the start of the holiday season at Easter, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will overturn the 3G rule in many areas from Maundy Thursday. In addition to gastronomy, this affects physical services, cultural and leisure facilities, trade fairs and events as well as sport, said Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) on Tuesday in Schwerin. The cabinet had previously discussed the current situation. The reason for the easing is the declining corona numbers.

Restrictions on tourism, clubs and discos

But not all areas are relaxed: According to Schwesig, tourists who are neither vaccinated nor recovered must still present a negative test on arrival. In clubs and discotheques, the MV government continues to rely on 2G plus. Means: In addition to a vaccination or recovery, a negative test must also be presented there.

300,000 guests expected in MV at Easter

The omission of 3G was already decided for restaurants on Tuesday of last week on Maundy Thursday. Since the number of corona infections and the number of patients in hospitals and intensive care units have continued to fall, this easing can be extended to other areas, explained Schwesig. She does not consider the obligation to carry out a corona test when tourists arrive to be a major impairment of Easter business. The industry is expecting around 300,000 guests, which corresponds to an occupancy rate of 75 percent.

Cinema operators welcome the lifting of 3G regulations

Fabian Liebenow from Filmland MV welcomes the easing: “This is a great relief for cinema operators, especially now before Easter,” he said on NDR MV Live. With the lifting of the 3G regulation, another hurdle for visitors would be removed. He cannot yet say whether there will be a rush over the holidays. “It depends on the weather,” he explained.

Knut Schäfer from the Rügen Tourist Association is calm about the fact that unvaccinated holidaymakers are still required to be tested: “I’d rather have Easter with 3G than no Easter at all,” he said on NDR MV Live. Lars Schwarz, President of the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga) in MV, was previously less pleased. Compared to other federal states, he sees a clear competitive disadvantage for the hosts in the north-east. Because elsewhere there is no longer a distinction between vaccinated and unvaccinated guests.

Bioinformatician Kaderali expects the situation to ease

On March 24, the state parliament declared MV a nationwide corona hotspot. This allowed the state government to maintain the restrictions in place until then. The hotspot regulation initially applies until April 27th. Bioinformatician Lars Kaderali said in Schwerin that he expected the situation to ease further. However, a new wave is to be expected in autumn.
