The mobile subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom in the USA has again become the victim of a hacker attack. The alleged perpetrators could have captured private information such as telephone numbers and addresses.
Hackers have stolen the data of 37 million users of the mobile operator T-Mobile in the United States. The company announced this yesterday after the US stock market closed. According to T-Mobile, the cyber attack was discovered on January 5th. It was said to have been successfully stopped in less than 24 hours.
According to preliminary findings, phone numbers, birth information, and billing addresses may have been stolen, but no passwords, credit card, or social security numbers. According to T-Mobile, customer accounts and financial data are not affected.
Investigations are ongoing
Apparently, the hacker attack began at the end of November. The investigation into the cyber attack is still ongoing. According to the company, there is currently no evidence that it was possible to penetrate the system or network. However, the US mobile communications provider, which belongs to the Bonn-based Telekom group, did not rule out that the incident could result in high costs.
The company has repeatedly been targeted by cybercriminals in recent years. In 2021, T-Mobile was the victim of a large-scale cyber attack that affected the data of 76.6 million US customers. The company committed to paying $350 million in compensation last summer and spending $150 million over two years to improve its data security.
