3-year-old child found left to himself in an apartment

Leaving a child unsupervised can lead to the offense of neglecting a minor, as this event reported by Progress. On Wednesday evening, January 12, residents alerted the gendarmerie after hearing suspicious noises in an apartment in the Bellevue district, in Saint-Etienne (Loire).

The gendarmes knocked on the door, behind which groans reached them, without response. The firefighters intervened to force the door open.

The mother had gone to a friend’s

Inside, they discovered a little boy barely three years old, his legs bound by a sling, his diaper full of excrement. Her mother, aged 31, had been away for several hours at a friend’s house, “to talk”, she explained. She was heard at the Fauriel police station.

Medical examinations carried out on the child confirmed that he had no lesions. The neglect of a minor, punishable by the Penal Code, can be worth seven years’ imprisonment and a fine of 100,000 euros to negligent parents, if the child under 15 is put in danger.
