FC Schalke’s downward spiral continues. The 3-0 defeat in Karlsruhe makes it clear that new coach Karel Geraerts still has a lot of work to do. In contrast, Holstein Kiel continues to soar.

FC has also had a change of coach Schalke did not get the turnaround they were hoping for. In the first game under the direction of Karel Geraerts, the struggling second division football team lost 0:3 (0:2) to Karlsruher SC.

After the fourth defeat in a row, the Revierclub, which was considered a promotion candidate at the start of the season, remains in third-to-last place in the table. In contrast, the KSC, which had previously been winless five times, took the first step out of the crisis. Lars Stindl (22nd) and Igor Matanovic (37th) scored in front of the home crowd to secure a deserved victory. The 3-0 came from an own goal by Schalke defender Henning Matriciani (74th).

Like FC Schalke, the second Bundesliga relegated Hertha BSC also remained without a point on matchday ten. After recently improving form, coach Pal Dardai’s team suffered a 1:3 (1:0) defeat in Nuremberg. After Smail Prevljak took the lead (15th), the Berliners seemed to be well on their way to their third away win in a row. But Jens Castrop (57th), Toni Leistner (own goal/72nd) and Daichi Hayashi (84th) turned the game around.

With the 3:1 (1:1) at Hansa Rostock, Holstein Kiel managed to jump to third place. Even the early deficit caused by Christian Kinsombi’s goal (18th) didn’t upset the guests. Fiete Arp (33rd), Nicolai Remberg (56th) and Timo Becker (58th) brought the hard-fought success. FC St. Pauli is still at the top of the table after a 2-2 (0-1) draw at SC Paderborn on Saturday. However, the second Hamburger SV was able to catch up on points with a 2-0 (2-0) win over SpVgg Greuther Fürth.
