Heidenheim has taken another step towards the Bundesliga. At the bottom of the table, Sandhausen is the first to be relegated, with Regensburg likely to follow.

In the promotion race of the 2nd division, 1. FC Heidenheim is well on the way to following SV Darmstadt 98 into the Bundesliga. With the 1-0 (0-0) win against SV Sandhausen, the team of coach Frank Schmidt put in a long-distance duel with Hamburger SV in the fight for second place.

On Friday, Darmstadt had already made their return to the Bundesliga perfect with a 1-0 win over 1. FC Magdeburg. Sandhausen is determined by the defeat as the first relegation of the second division season.

Heidenheim’s lead over HSV, who are third in the relegation ranks and won 2-1 (1-0) against Greuther Fürth in the evening, is still one point before the last matchday.

Disappointment in Sandhausen

While Heidenheim was able to celebrate, opponents Sandhausen were very disappointed: Interim coach Gerhard Kleppinger’s team has no chance of staying up in the league after losing again as bottom of the table. The competitors Arminia Bielefeld and also Jahn Regensburg scored.

But Regensburg will probably not be able to prevent going into the third division despite the 2-1 (1-1) away win at Eintracht Braunschweig. Before the last day of play, Regensburg have three points and a 15-goal deficit on table 16. Bielefeld up. “Of course we hoped that we would still have a final next week. The disappointment is very, very big now,” said Jahn’s sporting director Tobias Werner. After the 2: 2 (2: 1) against SC Paderborn, Bielefeld have practically secured the relegation place.
