Second division autumn champions SV Darmstadt suffered a setback at the end of the first half of the season.

Second division autumn champions SV Darmstadt suffered a setback at the end of the first half of the season.

In the last game before the long winter break, coach Torsten Lieberknecht’s team on Sunday couldn’t get past a 1-1 (1-1) draw against SpVgg Greuther Fürth despite being outnumbered after Gideon Jung was sent off (48th). This reduced the gap between the leaders and second-placed Hamburger SV to two points.

The joy of the North Germans about the 4:2 (1:0) the day before against SV Sandhausen was clouded by the positive doping test for defender Mario Vuskovic and the concern about possible consequences in sports law.

1. FC Heidenheim also belongs to the circle of promotion aspirants. After the 5: 4 (3: 2) spectacle over Jahn Regensburg with just two goals in added time, coach Frank Schmidt’s team is only one point behind HSV in the relegation rank. The 4:4 between Karlsruher SC and FC St. Pauli was just as exciting.

The Sunday games, on the other hand, were less goal-rich. Unlike Darmstadt, Bielefeld and Nuremberg celebrated victories. The previous bottom of the table from Bielefeld improved to 16th place after the 3-1 (1-0) win over Magdeburg. The new table-11 made even more places. 1. FC Nuremberg good thanks to the 2:1 (1:0) over SC Paderborn.
