25th Bundesliga matchday: Bochum’s Haaland is called Masovic – Sport

VfL Bochum – RB Leipzig 1: 0 (0: 0), Goal: 1: 0 Masovic (48th)

“We were eaten up,” Leipzig aptly analyzed after the 7-0 defeat at Manchester City in the Champions League round of 16 during the week, when Erling Haaland alone conceded five goals. Bochum doesn’t have a Haaland, but Erhan Masovic was enough on Saturday: the central defender scored his fourth goal in 2023, against Leipzig he headed a rebound over the line.

On the other hand, Leipzig gave huge chances, perhaps the greatest Dominik Szoboszlai after a terrific solo run in added time – the ball rebounded from the inside post into the arms of Bochum goalkeeper Manuel Riemann. VfL achieved one of the most important of many home wins under coach Thomas Letsch. The advantage over the relegation zone is four points.

TSG Hoffenheim – Hertha BSC 3: 1 (2: 0), Goals: 1: 0 Kramaric (23′, penalty kick), 2: 0 Kramaric (penalty kick, 38′), 3: 0 Bebou (51′), 3: 1 Jovetic (90’+2′) – red card: Dabbur (71′). .)

The table eighteenth plays at home against the fifteenth, after an almost endless series of defeats and with a counted coach – sounds like a final game atmosphere. In Sinsheim, however, a few seats in the stadium remained free again. But then there was quiet cheering when Andrej Kramaric chipped a hand penalty in the middle and also confidently converted the second penalty. Incidentally, both were exceptionally undisputed.

Hoffenheim was clearly better, the 3-0 after a one-off action by Ihlas Bebou was an expression of superiority. TSG won a game for the first time in the new year – and overtakes Hertha, which remains the weakest away team in the league.

VfB Stuttgart – VfL Wolfsburg 0: 1 (0: 0), Goal: 0-1 Marmoush (56′)

Stuttgart versus Wolfsburg means a duel between two future internationals. But it sounds more spectacular than it was: Full-back Josha Vagnoman, nominated for the first time by national coach Hansi Flick for the upcoming friendlies, was only on the bench, as was usually the case at the beginning. After all, Felix Nmecha played in the Wolfsburg midfield. The player did something spectacular one row further up: Striker Omar Marmoush, who was loaned to VfB last season, scored from distance for Wolfsburg.

At VfB, Vagnoman came after an hour to replace Waldemar Anton in the surprisingly unsettled back four. But that didn’t help either. Schalke’s late goal pushed Stuttgart down to 18th place.

Borussia Dortmund – 1. FC Cologne 6: 1 (4: 1), Goals: 1-0 Guerreiro (15′), 2-0 Haller (17′), 3-0 Reus (32′), 4-0 Malen (36′), 4-1 Selke (42′), 5-1 Haller (69′), 6-1 Reus (70′)

Davie Selke would probably have wished for a different occasion to give his critics an argument for his abilities. Selke, a striker at 1. FC Köln by trade, scored his first goal for his new club in Dortmund on Saturday. However, the goal for the interim 1:4 was a decidedly insignificant one. BVB won 6:1 in the end, FC was inferior in several classes.

On the one hand, the result was not a big surprise, after all, Dortmund is clearly the best team in the second half of the season and has not been defeated in the Bundesliga since the beginning of the year. On the other hand, Borussia had only played 2-2 against Schalke, was eliminated from the Champions League against Chelsea and will meet FC Bayern after the international break. Some might have feared a reversal of the trend. But the opposite was the case: Dortmund took the lead in the table at least overnight and sent the message to Munich that this year there should actually and exceptionally be a duel for the cup again. “Who will be German champions? BVB Borussia!” chanted the fans.

The game was a demonstration of strength: Sometimes Donyell Malen was too fast for his opponents, sometimes Marco Reus, who scored twice, performed magic, sometimes Raphaël Guerreiro. Sebastian Haller also scored twice. And Marius Wolf, nominated for the national team for the first time by Hansi Flick, drove one attack after the other down his right side in front of the Cologne goal.

FC Augsburg – Schalke 04 1: 1 (0: 0), Goals: 1: 0 Maier (51st), 1: 1 Bülter (penalty, 90th + 3) – red card: Demirovic (53rd)

Schalke was in seventh place in the second half of the table before the day of the game – two wins, five draws, including one last weekend against arch-rivals Dortmund. Now the journey went to FCA, who have won all of their last four home games. It was the expected tough game. The most exciting question in the first half: Would Schalke’s Éder Balanta avoid being sent off? The Colombian saw a yellow card after just five minutes and then engaged in some dangerous duels. After a good half hour, coach Thomas Reis had mercy and replaced his midfielder.

The first half was sluggish, but the start after the break was wild: Augsburg’s Arne Maier intercepted a weak tee shot from goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann, played a smart one-two with Ermedin Demirović and scored to make it 1-0. Just two minutes later, Demirović scored himself – but not the goal, but Tom Krauss on the center line with a high leg in his face. The result: straight red. Then it became a game full of Zoff, quarrels and duels. Joker Simon Terodde missed the chance to equalize after a sharp cross from six meters (71st). Schalke pushed for a comeback and were awarded a penalty in injury time. Bülter converted – his fourth goal in the fourth game in a row. The Royal Blues remain undefeated.
