22-year-old influencer banned for ‘encouraging’ anorexia

Her 670,000 subscribers are going to feel “orphaned”: Liv Schmidt, a 22-year-old American influencer for whom “it is not a sin to want to be thin”, has just seen her TikTok account deleted because her posts “could encourage eating disorders”, reports Le Midi Libre.

It must be said that the videos from its theme “what I eat in a day” – “what I eat during a day” – implicitly encouraged the reduction of food consumption. Very widespread on social networks, this type of content generally aims to “take the guilt out of eating”, specifies Le Midi Libre.

A New York Times article explains that Liv Schmidt’s content began to be criticized because it was reminiscent of that of the “pro-ana”, the followers of a trend from the late 1990s that promoted thinness.

The influencer, for her part, denies suffering from any eating disorder in an article in the Wall Street Journal, cited by the New York Times. She even claims that society treats her better since she is thinner, specifies The Free Midi.
