2,000 piglets die in fire in Emsland – cause probably clear | NDR.de – News – Lower Saxony

Around 2,000 piglets died on Thursday morning in a fire in a pig farm in Neubörger in the joint municipality of Dörpen (Emsland district).

According to the police, the fire probably broke out in a heating system. From there it spread to the entire barn. According to information from the NDR in Lower Saxony, around 170 emergency services were able to prevent the flames from spreading to a neighboring house and a second barn with around 1,500 animals.

Burning pigsty in Neubörger: property damage in the millions

A fire department spokesman told the NDR in Lower Saxony that the extinguishing work had been made more difficult by a tractor and a truck. They stood near the burning stable and threatened to explode. According to the police, the property damage is in the millions.
