20% drop over one year in violence in transport in the capital and its inner suburbs

Five tonnes of narcotics seized since January 1

Regarding narcotics, nine tonnes have been seized over the past year, including five since January, and 45,000 people in connection with consumption or trafficking have been arrested, including 18,000 since the start of the year. “40% of the national violence takes place here, and it is therefore here that the battle against violence must be waged”, underlined the Minister of the Interior.

In April, Gérald Darmanin announced the assignment of 2,800 additional police officers to Paris and its agglomeration in 2023, in anticipation of the Rugby World Cup, organized in France in the fall, and especially the Olympic Games-2024 in Paris. In a letter to the prefect of police Laurent Nuñez, he asked for “a visible increase in the police presence on the public highway” in the places “which need it most”. He also specified that “200 new police officers” would be assigned to the transport police.
