15,513 new infections recorded
RKI: Incidence rises above 200 for the first time

The nationwide seven-day incidence has risen to over 200 for the first time since the beginning of the corona pandemic, reports the RKI. The previous high comes from December 2020. However, the situation is different today: A large part of the population is now vaccinated.

The seven-day incidence of new infections has reached the highest level since the beginning of the corona pandemic. The Robert Koch Institute gave the number of confirmed cases per 100,000 inhabitants per week as 201.1. The previous record was reached at the height of the second corona wave on December 22nd, 2020 with 197.6.

It is important to note that, unlike a year ago, many people are now vaccinated, and the rate is particularly high among the particularly endangered very old people. Experts therefore assume that the health system can now withstand more new infections than before the vaccinations, as these protect very well against the course of serious illnesses. The previous day the incidence was 191.5, a week ago it was 154.8 (previous month: 63.8).

The health authorities in Germany reported 15,513 new corona infections to the RKI within one day. This is evident from the figures that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 04.15 a.m. On Friday, the number of new infections had reached 37,120, a record since the beginning of the pandemic. Exactly a week ago the value was 9658 infections. According to the new information, 33 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 23 deaths. The RKI has counted 4,782,546 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected.

The number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days – the most important parameter for a possible tightening of the corona restrictions – was last stated by the RKI on Friday at 3.91 (Thursday: 3.73). With the indicator it must be taken into account that hospital admissions are sometimes reported with delay. A nationwide threshold value from when the situation can be viewed critically is not provided for the incidence of hospitalization, among other things because of large regional differences. The previous high was around 15.5 around Christmas time.

Coronavirus7-day hospitalization incidence

The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at 4,380,000. The number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 96,558.

Note: The RKI figures usually deviate slightly from the case data that ntv.de reports daily in the evening. The ntv.de data team has direct access to the registration figures from the federal states as published by the local ministries and authorities. The RKI, on the other hand, is bound to the legally prescribed reporting channels, which can lead to a delay.

In addition, the respective daily values map different recording periods: the ntv evaluation collects the country information published by the evening and uses this to calculate a daily status of the reported number of cases, which is usually published from 8 p.m. onwards. The RKI’s recording system, on the other hand, takes into account incoming reports up to midnight, with the current data status being announced the following morning.
