Choosing the tiling of the toilets: what to think about?

Kitchen, bathroom or toilet: tiling is extremely popular in bathrooms because it is easy to live with… when it is well chosen! In a room such as the bathroom, it is important to choose a suitable type of tile.

In the case of flooring, the tiles must first and foremost be robust. We therefore prefer tiling suitable for intensive to very intensive use. For more comfort and safety, it is recommended to opt for a non-slip model.

In toilets, hygiene is a major problem. In order to keep a clean space in all circumstances, be sure to choose a tile suitable for frequent cleaning, and the use of chemicals.

What type of tiles to choose for the toilets?

Porcelain stoneware tiles are the most popular in toilets. Indeed, this type of tile is both robust, easy to maintain and accessible to all budgets. In addition, it is now able to perfectly imitate many materials, among which:

  • Metal ;
  • Wood ;
  • Concrete;
  • Tile-cement;
  • Natural stone.

However, you can opt for different alternatives. Terracotta tiles are ideal for bringing a touch of charm and authenticity to the decor. In toilets, they have one drawback: they are porous. Their maintenance is therefore delicate, but the option remains possible.

Fans of delicate decorations will undoubtedly prefer earthenware. However, do not lose sight of the fact that this type of tile is fragile: it will therefore be used exclusively for wall covering or for covering a niche, for example.

Finally, you can opt for natural stones. Be careful, however. Their budget is higher and, above all, some are porous: this complicates the maintenance somewhat!

Tiling in the toilets: the best ideas.

Toilets are frequently installed in small, dark spaces. White tiling is therefore a common choice, because it boosts the brightness, but a little impersonal.

To find the balance between bright white and color, we adopt one of the trends of the moment: colored joints. The smart combination: white checks and a luminous blue – Klein blue or turquoise blue – which produces a contrast full of pep’s.

A cocooning atmosphere even in the toilets, with a soft pattern in pearl gray and white. The trick, for an even more cozy atmosphere: adopt a tiling with a matte finish.

With its graphic pattern of decidedly Scandinavian influence and these resolutely trendy natural colors, this tile is definitely all good!

The retro style remains a safe bet in the toilets as in the bathroom. We therefore associate a tile-cement effect tiling on the floor and a metro tiling on the walls. The good idea: temper this vintage decor by opting for a very modern gray palette.

If metro tiling is also popular in toilets, it is because it adapts to all spaces and comes in an impressive range of colors and finishes. But it has another significant advantage, which is that it allows many types of poses. Traditional horizontal installation, vertical installation, rafter installation… you have the embarrassment of the choice to cheat a little and use the subway tiles to visually enlarge the room!

For several seasons, the cement tile spirit has been adorned with resolutely current colors. In these toilets, we opted for a fresh palette of blue, warmed by a touch of terracotta and very trendy yellow.

If the mosaic remains a safe bet, it is a question of skillfully playing with sizes and formats to succeed. In these toilets with a very natural atmosphere, we have therefore associated traditional small-format earthenware with XL tiles on the floor.

The mosaic has the advantage of immediately giving relief to the decoration. It is therefore particularly well found for a neat decoration in the toilets.

A rectangular format is striking and rather practical to bring a little dynamism to the decor and enlarge the room. Vertical or horizontal installation: the choice is to be determined according to the configuration of your toilet.

For toilets with a refined atmosphere, we dare to use black marble with white veins.
