The organizers of the Hanover Fair draw a positive conclusion after five days of industrial show: According to this, 130,000 visitors met 4,000 exhibitors. After the corona pandemic, the fair was larger again.
You can sense a spirit of optimism, said Jochen Köckler, CEO of Deutsche Messe AG, looking back on the exhibition for mechanical and electrical engineering that has been running since Monday. “The point is that there are technologies for competitive and at the same time climate-friendly industrial production.” The main topics of the industrial show were energy efficiency, more climate-friendly production, networked production and the hydrogen economy. “The knot has burst,” said Gunther Kegel, President of the Electrical and Digital Association ZVEI and Head of the Advisory Board for Exhibitors, with a view to investments in the electrical infrastructure. Progress is especially being made with grid expansion and efforts to bring offshore wind energy ashore. At the same time, however, a number of bureaucratic obstacles still have to be removed in Germany, according to Kegel.
BDI warns of loss of market share
At the beginning of the Hanover Fair, the Federation of German Industries (BDI) warned that Germany was falling behind in international comparison and was losing market share in terms of exports. “Germany’s competitiveness is dwindling,” said BDI President Siegfried Russwurm. Politicians must do more to ensure that Germany’s position does not deteriorate. Climate protection and digitization require better framework conditions for innovations. While the electrical and digital industry increased its annual forecast last Monday due to rising production, the supplier association, for example, complained about problems due to high energy costs and global economic uncertainties.
Automation and machine learning in focus
Over the past five days, numerous companies have presented technologies at the Hanover exhibition center that should lead to CO2-neutral production and resource-saving circular economy in the medium term. Specifically, it was about energy management and the development of a hydrogen economy. The trade fair also focused on automation and machine learning, as well as artificial intelligence and networked manufacturing processes. “The path to climate-neutral production leads via Hanover,” said trade fair boss Köckler before the start of the show.

No partner country for Hannover Messe 2024 yet
According to the exhibition company, the proportion of foreign guests was 43 percent. Most came from the Netherlands, China, South Korea, Poland and the USA. The partner country of this year’s Hannover Messe was Indonesia. Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) opened the industrial show together with Indonesian President Joko Widodo. It is still unclear which state will take over the partnership at the trade fair next year. Canada is a partner country in 2025. According to Messe AG, more than 800 companies from Germany currently employ around 70,000 people in Canada
