122 percent more sunflowers – economy

All over the country there are yellow flowers. And there is a global economic policy reason for this. Farmers in Germany have grown significantly more sunflowers this year than before. The background is the imminent loss of imports of the coveted sunflower oil from Ukraine. Farmers have more than doubled the German area under cultivation in the current year to 85,300 hectares new list of the Federal Statistical Office out. In the previous year it was 38,300 hectares according to preliminary figures. The area for sunflowers has already grown significantly in previous years. In an EU comparison, however, Germany is still a small producer with a share of 0.5 percent. The leaders are Romania, Bulgaria, Spain and France.
