112 people trapped by the rising waters were taken to safety

The Cevennes episode which led to severe weather in the Gard, required the intervention of emergency services on numerous occasions. One hundred and twelve people, most of them trapped in their cars by the rapid rise in water, were rescued by the firefighters. The rescues took place in ten municipalities, in Nîmes and Beaucaire in particular. In Chamborigaud, residents had to be evacuated, just like a campsite.

Up to 458 mm of water fell in the Cévennes, in Villefort, a town relatively accustomed to this type of phenomenon. In Nîmes, Sunday evening, rains were recorded with an intensity of 86 mm of water in one hour, causing runoff phenomena. No casualties were reported.

More than a thousand people without electricity

Many roads on the secondary network were cut on Sunday, before being gradually reopened to traffic. The SNCF line between Alès and La Bastide (Lozère) remains interrupted until Monday noon, to check the works. More than a thousand people were also deprived of electricity in the department, due to bad weather.

While the Bouches-du-Rhône is placed in red vigilance on Monday, the Gard has for its part been demoted to yellow vigilance in order to monitor a possible flooding of the Cèze, one of the tributaries of the Rhône.
