100 years of Disney: The ten most successful films of the cartoon empire

“Mickey Mouse”, “Alice in Wonderland” or “The Lion King” – the list of Disney’s film classics is long and successful. Around 100 years ago – on October 15, 1923 – the then 21-year-old Walt Disney founded the very company that would soon become one of the most successful entertainment empires.

Seven of the ten most successful films come from Disney

With just $500 from his brother Roy in hand, the animator achieved what could be described as the “American Dream” in his uncle’s garage. His company became a huge success overnight and, 100 years later, is still one of the five largest media companies in the world with sales of $74.8 billion. Disney is one of the leading masterminds in the US film business and can call seven of the ten most successful films of all time its own. Aside from these hits, everyone probably knows at least one, if not all, of the now over 60 original productions.

Pure nostalgia: The ten most successful Disney films – calculated from the ratings and average audience ratings – are shown in the photo series above.
