The explosion of a tanker truck injured 21, two of them seriously

A truck carrying gas exploded Friday morning in Fillinges (Haute-Savoie). A total of 21 people were injured, two of them seriously. The explosion also damaged a dozen surrounding houses, said the prefecture of the department.

According to a press release “the fire broke out at the level of the tractor vehicle of the gas tanker”. It was then at the crossroads of two departmental roads in the Giffre valley near Annemasse. The fire in the truck then caused “overheating of the tank and its explosion”, underlines the prefecture.

A dozen houses impacted by the blast of the explosion

While 21 people were injured during the accident, two people are currently hospitalized in serious condition. France Blue Country of Savoy specifies that among the two injured, a woman would have received a piece of debris from her car, located near the site of the explosion. The press release also indicates that “two residential areas and a dozen houses were impacted by the blast of the explosion at the time of the explosion”.

One hundred and ten firefighters from the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS) were deployed to the scene, with reinforcements from SAMU doctors and soldiers from the national gendarmerie.

From now on, the fire is extinguished and the prefecture ensures that there is no longer any risk of explosion.
